Our History

Fireplace & Grill Center’s story began in 1969, when Gas Appliance Service opened as the exclusive residential service provider for Laclede Gas Company, now Spire. At the time, customers could purchase gas appliances directly from the utility, and Gas Appliance Service was trusted to install them, service them, and keep them operating properly for years to come.

As the industry changed, so did the business. When Laclede Gas moved away from selling residential appliances, Gas Appliance Service expanded into retail, building on the technical knowledge and service experience it had already developed. Over time, the company focused on the products that became its specialty: fireplaces, gas logs, grills, and gas lamps.

In 2004, the company opened its dedicated retail showroom on Manchester Road, creating a place where customers could not only see products on display, but experience them in operation. Today, the showroom features more fully functioning fireplace displays than any other showroom in the region, allowing customers to compare flame patterns, heat output, styles, and features in a real-world setting.

The original Westport location remains in operation today as the company’s warehouse and service center, continuing the service tradition that has been at the heart of the business since 1969.

In 2023, under new ownership and management, the company brought its retail, service, installation, and warehouse operations together under one name: Fireplace & Grill Center.

More than five decades later, the company still follows the same principle that started it all: offer the right product, install it properly, service it well, and be there for the customer long after the sale.
